Tools and work spaces are the very first things that most people are looking for when working on projects. When ideas become more advanced, additional resources are needed for design, production and promotion. This page attempts to capture all resources in the greater Keweenaw area related to such needs that our members may have.
Hand tools and specialized tools
The Quincy Garage attempts to provide capabilities for makers to accomplish their projects, and stocks many Tools. Sometimes, the available tools at the Garage just aren't enough. Some tools are very specialized and not stocked in the Garage. Other tools require too much space to work well at the Garage, or are needed on-site for things that cannot be brought to the Garage. Resources listed below can help with these scenarios
- Many auto parts stores loan certain hand tools. Here is a list of stores that are known to lend tools:
- AutoZone
- O'Reilly
- Many members of the Superior Fab Lab have specialized tools – post in the Community Help area on Discord to see if anyone can assist
Work spaces and event spaces
The Quincy Garage is available for holding events and working on projects. This is our goal! But there can be time conflicts, space constraints, and generally the need for another location.
- The Portage Lake District Library Makerspace can be reserved by library members. They have a workspace, art supplies, a Cricut, a button maker, and a Facebook group.
- The Houghton High School wood shop is open to the public for a $10 daily fee from 5-9pm on Tuesdays when school is in session. Currently, around 5 people use it on a weekly basis, and the workshop can support up to 15 people. For more information, contact Greg Staricha.
- For work on airplanes, chapter 1270 of the Experimental Aviation Association is located at the airport and has monthly meetings.
